Scott Walter talked about his new book Arabella on the Kendall and Casey Podcast
Arabella Advisors is a secretive “dark money” operation that channels megadonor funds into leftist political causes via pop-up groups designed to look like innocent grassroots outfits. The sheer quantity of money that has flowed through Arabella’s channels is staggering. In the 2020 election cycle, Arabella’s nonprofits took in $2.4 billion, more than the fundraising of the Democratic and Republican National Committees combined. In the 2022 election cycle, Arabella’s fundraising rose to $3 billion.
The term “dark money” was coined back in 2010 by someone on the left side of the political spectrum to criticize the flow of money on the right. In fact, there is far more “dark money” on the left. “Dark money” originally referred to money from 501(c)(4) nonprofits, such as the National Rifle Association and the League of Conservation Voters. This type of nonprofit can endorse candidates and generally get involved in politics, and they don’t have to reveal their donors.
