Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Tax Evader

Over significant opposition, the Senate approved tax evader Timothy Geithner as secretary of the Treasury, a USA Today blog reports. The vote was 60 to 34.

Several Democrats, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Robert Byrd of West Virginia, and Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, voted against the nomination. Independent Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont, who aligns himself with the Democrats, also voted against confirmation.

Of course Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), one of several make-believe conservatives in the Senate, voted to confirm and said nice things about Geithner.
