Government co-opting charities


At PhilanthropyDaily.com I have a piece commenting on James Piereson’s powerful Wall Street Journal essay on charities that have been co-opted by government.

Piereson, a Manhattan Institute fellow and president of the William E. Simon Foundation, warns that charities and the so-called “independent sector” are supposed to reduce the need for government. Yet all too often today they are dependent on government dollars and lobby hard for bigger government.
