With the collapse of the Assad regime, Turkey’s jihadist allies in Syria have started attacking the Kurdish-led and U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, which includes significant numbers of Sunni Arabs and Christians. With U.S. forces currently on the ground in Syria, the U.S. is already involved in the Syrian civil war, and the U.S. history of abandoning its local allies when the things get difficult or the U.S. gets distracted doesn’t bode well.
