October 11, 2024

InfluenceWatch, a project of Capital Research Center, is a comprehensive and ever-evolving compilation of our research into the numerous advocacy groups, foundations, and donors working to influence the public policy process. The website offers transparency into these influencers’ funding, motives, and connections while providing insight often neglected by other watchdog groups.
The information compiled in InfluenceWatch gives news outlets and other interested parties research to use in reporting on significant topics that are often overlooked by the American public.
CRC is pleased to present some of the most significant additions to InfluenceWatch in the past week:
- Powering a New Economy Fund is a coalition organizer that advocates for left-of-center economic policies at the state and local levels. It is a fiscally sponsored project of the New Venture Fund (NFV), a nonprofit managed by the Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm Arabella Advisors. Powering a New Economy Fund has received grants from left-of-center groups including the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the K. Kellogg Foundation, and the Omidyar Network.
- JustFix is an advocacy group that provides digital tools and resources to promote the left-of-center “housing justice movement” within the state of New York. It has partnered with other organizations to assist New York City tenants including Housing Justice for All, the Legal Aid Society, and Legal Services NYC. JustFix has received funding from left-of-center organizations and other institutions including the Ford Foundation, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Open Society Foundations (OSF), Deutsche Bank, and the New York Community Trust.
- Propper Daley LLC is a for-profit consulting firm that creates advocacy campaigns for nonprofit groups, other businesses, and government agencies. Between 2015 and 2022, the firm received $1.5 million in grants from the Ford Foundation for several projects, including a $1 million grant in 2015 for the “For the Free America” campaign advocating an end to “mass incarceration.” Propper Daley has partnered with other left-of-center groups for social justice advocacy projects including the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the State Infrastructure Fund, and the Zinc Collective.
- The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) is a Washington D.C-based think tank focused on technology policy and development. Its funders have included Google parent company Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Facebook parent company Meta, Microsoft, Disney, the Charles Koch Institute, Schmidt Futures, Uber, and Walmart.
- The Institute for Palestine Studies (IPS), also known as the Institute for Palestine Studies USA Inc. (IPS USA), is a pro-Palestinian research and advocacy group that publishes written materials and commentary on Palestinian history and current events. IPS USA is the American branch of the international Institute for Palestine Studies organization, with its other branches based in Beirut, Lebanon, and Ramallah in the West Bank. During an interview with Marxist outlet Jacobin, IPS USA president and chair Rashid Khalidi blamed the October 7, 2023 Hamas terror attacks on Israel’s “violent settler colonialism and resistance to it.”
