Hidden Money Trails of Radical Organizations
Kristen Eastlick on the Never Again Is Now Podcast
Kristen Eastlick discusses how radical groups get their funding during her appearance on the Never Again Is Now Podcast.
Organizations are not required to disclose donations by individuals as a matter of U.S. case law (NAACP v. Alabama). But groups can hide donations through fiscal sponsorship. For example, Students for Justice in Palestine, the group mostly responsible for the anti-Israel protests on American campuses, is fiscally sponsored by the WESTPAC Foundation. This means that donations to Students for Justice in Palestine are routed through WESTPAC, which doesn’t have to disclose what if any money it passes on to Students for Justice in Palestine or the origin of that money.
WESTPAC, in turn, has received funding from the Elias Foundation ($100,000), the Sparkplug Foundation ($100,000), Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisers($80,000), Open Society Foundations ($4,000), and the Groundswell Fund.
