An End to Earmarks?


“Congressman LaHood’s staff called me, saying, ‘We know your roads are in bad condition. What can we do?’ said LuAnn Johnson, executive director of the Oak Ridge Cemetary in Springfield. ‘We were thrilled for the chance for federal dollars.”

Illinois congressman Ray LaHood is President-elect Obama’s token Republican pick for Secretary of Transportation. The cemetary, site of Abraham Lincoln’s tomb, did not ask for $245,000, but got it anyway, reports the Washington Post.
