The University’s Shadow Activists: The Architects of Woke

The Architects of Woke series takes aim at far-left post-modernist and Marxist thinkers and activists responsible for the spread of identity politics from college campuses to society at large.

The University’s Shadow Activists

The seventh episode, The University’s Shadow Activists, covers the rapidly growing class of university administrators. With the rising cost of higher education, have you ever wondered where all that money is going? Since the 1970s the size of the university student body and faculty has jumped by around 50 percent, but the number of administrators has increased 300 percent. Often paid more than professors, graduates with degrees from activist university departments who are unemployable in the private sector are incentivized to become university administrators. While there, these activists have a perverse incentive to cultivate student grievances; the less students can run their own lives, the more power accorded to administrators.
