ACORN Plans Party with Roseanne and Extremist Congresswoman

ACORN, which former members are now trying to have investigated for racketeering (see earlier blog entry), is planning a party for March 12 in Oakland, California. The guests of honor include comedian Roseanne Barr and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-California), a Marxist who once betrayed her country.

Lee, a former social worker and chief of staff to Rep. Ron Dellums, was first elected to Congress in 1998 to replace Dellums. In 2001 she was the sole lawmaker to vote against authorizing the president to use military force against any group or nation involved in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The vote was 420 to 1. Lee is also a prominent member of the far-left Congressional Progressive Caucus, which Cheryl Chumley profiled in the January 2007 Foundation Watch.

When Lee worked for Dellums, who had top security clearance as chairman of the House Armed Services subcommittee on military installations, she collaborated with the Communist, pro-Castro dictatorship of Grenada. After Dellums visited Grenada on a fact-finding trip, he certified that its new airport, made with Cuban help, was no threat to U.S. security because Cuban and Soviet military airplanes would be unable to use it.

John Fund of the Wall Street Journal reported that Dellums’s office “prepared a report on the trip and asked for the Marxist regime to vet it, according to documents from a meeting of the communist government’s politburo that American troops captured.”

“‘Barbara Lee is here presently and has brought with her a report on the international airport done by Ron Dellums,’ the documents read. ‘They have requested that we look at the document and suggest any changes we deem necessary. They will be willing to make changes.’ The meeting documents go on to discuss possible military uses of the airfield,” Fund wrote.

“If this is not treason, what is?” asked David Horowitz, a former Communist himself who later became a conservative.

Barbara Lee and ACORN: they’re a perfect match.

California ACORN is pleased to invite you to our 2009 Annual Reception, to be held the evening of Thursday, March 12 at the Downtown Oakland Marriot.

We come together with friends, allies, and co-workers to celebrate the work we have done, but also to share ideas and excitement about the plans and opportunities ahead of us!

Join ACORN’s community leaders in honoring some special friends, including Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Actress/Comedienne/Activist Roseanne Barr, State Senator Loni Hancock, Director of Urban Strategies Council Junious Williams and California United Food and Commercial Workers

Click here to RSVP and Join us on March 12th!

ACORN had a “wild ride” in 2008.  We were champions to some, and vilified as “public enemy #1 (or number two, behind Bill Ayers) by others.  Then Presidential candidate John McCain charged ACORN with “destroying the fabric of democracy.”  But we and our friends know that community organizing, the work that ACORN members are doing in their neighborhoods day in and day out, is accomplishing just the opposite. This growth in civic engagement is re-weaving the fabric of democracy!  And as we enter 2009 it is a whole new day!

Given the challenges ahead, with California facing one of the worst economic crises seen in our lifetime, ACORN members believe it is more important than ever that the  voices of low to moderate income people be heard in the halls of power.  ACORN members and leaders are standing with our allies in an effort to stop the worst of the cuts, especially to education and healthcare, while organizing around a longer-term vision and plan to generate the revenue our state needs to provide for its residents.  And we are working on the local level to make sure that the Economic Stimulus dollars and other government funds coming into our cities is spent in a way that truly benefits low income workers and communities.  All the while, we continue to battle the impacts of the foreclosure crisis.  We have our work cut out for us, but with your support we know we will continue making change!
