About Accountability Watch

Welcome to Accountability Watch, the Capital Research Center’s ongoing effort document some of the most egregious examples of the federal government’s careless use of your tax dollars.

As longtime experts on the American nonprofit sector, the CRC has embarked on a massive project to comb through billions of dollars of federal spending records to identify the wasteful, ludicrous, and downright awful nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) receiving support from the U.S. government. We hope to inform the public how their money is used and to identify waste that legislators and federal officials can eliminate.

Initially named the “DOGE Files,” CRC’s Accountability Watch began with the second Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency. DOGE was created on with an executive order signed by President Trump on January 20, 2025. With the accelerated DOGE sunset, CRC used that experience to build this permanent platform focused on government waste, fraud, and abuse involving nonprofits and public–private networks.
