Motive Unknown: the comic strip

[Continuing our series on deception in politics and public policy.]

The motive of Omar Mateen “may never be known,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch lied yesterday [http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2016/06/21/ag-lynch-promises-doj-money-orlando-fema-funds-denied]. Mateen was an ISIS terrorist who, fulfilling the hatred of gay people that is an essential part of Islam in most Muslim-majority countries, murdered 49 people at a gay nightclub while declaring that Allah is great. His motive is known to Lynch, you, me, and everyone else who follows the news.

Weirdly, Lynch and her fellow con artists are attempting to draw a dividing line between ISIS ideology and hatred of the LGBT community. They are suggesting that there is somehow a disagreement over which of the two ways of thinking provided Mateen with his mindset. …which is like saying of a Ku Klux Klan bomber, “Was he motivated by his affiliation with the Klan, his opposition to civil rights, or his hatred of black people? Or perhaps by the lack of adequate bomb-control laws? We may never know what drove him to commit these acts.”

Islamofascists hate gays and believe that women should be subjugated and sexually mutilated. That is part of their ideology, inseparable from the rest of what they believe, including their “green” anti-capitalist views, their hatred of the U.S. and Israel and what they call “Rome” (the Christian-dominated world), and their disgust at the concept of Western-style individual rights.

Here’s what the liberal Los Angeles Times reported (http://www.latimes.com/world/la-fg-global-gay-rights-snap-story.html). (I have added, in brackets, the estimated percentage of Muslims in the population in each country.)

There are 13 countries where the death penalty might be applied for same-sex sexual acts, according to [the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, based in Geneva].

These are countries that have large Muslim populations, and the sentencing derives from an interpretation of sharia, or Islamic law.

There are some, such as Nigeria [47.9% Muslim nationally] and Somalia [98.9%], where only certain regions impose capital punishment for homosexual acts.

Others — including Mauritania [100%], Afghanistan [99.8%], Pakistan [96.4%], Qatar [77.5%] and the United Arab Emirates [76%] — have provisions for the death penalty in their legal codes but are not known to have carried it out in such cases.

And there are countries where local courts and non-state actors have summarily imposed the death penalty against homosexuals, including parts of Iraq [98.9%] and Syria [90%] controlled by the extremist group Islamic State [which seeks to impose Islam on the world].

Countries where the penalty can be implemented nationwide include Sudan [97%], Iran [99.7%], Saudi Arabia [97.1%] and Yemen [99%].

The method of execution can include hanging, stoning, beheading or being thrown off a high building, as Islamic State reportedly favors.

The Washington Post listed the death-penalty-for-gays countries as:

–Yemen [99% Muslim]: According to the 1994 penal code, married men can be sentenced to death by stoning for homosexual intercourse. Unmarried men face whipping or one year in prison. Women face up to seven years in prison.

–Iran [99.7%]: In accordance with sharia law, homosexual intercourse between men can be punished by death, and men can be flogged for lesser acts such as kissing. Women may be flogged.

–Iraq [98.9%]: The penal code does not expressly prohibit homosexual acts, but people have been killed by militias and sentenced to death by judges citing sharia law.

–Mauritania [100%]: Muslim men engaging in homosexual sex can be stoned to death, according to a 1984 law. Women face prison.

–Nigeria [47.9%]: Federal law classifies homosexual behavior as a felony punishable by imprisonment, but several states have adopted sharia law and imposed a death penalty for men. A law signed in early January makes it illegal for gay people countrywide to hold a meeting or form clubs.

–Qatar [77.5%]: Sharia law in Qatar applies only to Muslims, who can be put to death for extramarital sex, regardless of sexual orientation.

–Saudi Arabia [97.1%]: Under the country’s interpretation of sharia law, a married man engaging in sodomy or any non-Muslim who commits sodomy with a Muslim can be stoned to death. All sex outside of marriage is illegal.

–Somalia [98.9%]: The penal code stipulates prison, but in some southern regions, Islamic courts have imposed Sharia law and the death penalty.

–Sudan [97%]: Three-time offenders under the sodomy law can be put to death; first and second convictions result in flogging and imprisonment. Southern parts of the country have adopted more lenient laws.

–United Arab Emirates [76%]: Lawyers in the country and other experts disagree on whether federal law proscribes the death penalty for consensual homosexual sex or only for rape. In a recent Amnesty International report, the organization said it was not aware of any death sentences for homosexual acts. All sexual acts outside of marriage are banned.

A new country that should be on the list is ISIS/The Islamic State, which regularly executes LGBT people. (See the video “ISIS throws gay men off buildings” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr7d1sTDNts .)  ISIS exists as a world power only because of the policies of Obama and his chosen successor–particularly, the precipitous withdrawal from Iraq. Thanks, President Obama! Thanks, Secretary Clinton!
