Statistical Voodoo Practitioner Tapped for Census Post

A practitioner of the statistical voodoo known as “sampling” has been selected by President Obama to head the Census Bureau, which is poised to carry out the decennial census next year with ACORN’s help. Liberal pressure groups have long favored using statistical modeling, a practice controversial because it’s flagrantly unconstitutional and because it opens up the counting process to political manipulation.

“A sampling process would open the census to the worst kind of political manipulation,” Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) recently said. “The Constitution clearly requires a count of every person, not a best guess that could be influenced by political rather than empirical considerations.”

The president’s nominee is Robert M. Groves, a professor of the alleged discipline known as sociology at the University of Michigan.

Republican lawmakers are alarmed, the New York Times reports.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-California), ranking member on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said the nomination “is an incredibly troubling selection that contradicts the administration’s assurances that the census process would not be used to advance an ulterior political agenda.”

During his confirmation hearing, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke testified that “It is my understanding that there are no plans to use any type of statistical sampling with respect to population count.”

Perhaps Locke was telling the truth. Maybe the Obama administration didn’t brief him on its Census pick.

  1. Why should Republican lawmakers be alarmed? After all we have Pelosi eliminating the Writ of Recommit and Reid playing with Reconciliation procedures, Democrats in both House and Senate writing bills behind closed doors, Obama not allowing time for the opposition to read a thousand page plus bill, Pelosi not even providing final copies of bills to the opposition, Barney Franks saying on the floor those who disagree with the Democrats have a mental illness, the White House proposing to assume control of the Census Bureau, the less than honest organization ACORN being given a role in doing the census, the refusal to allow census takers to ask about the citizenship status of people, and Reid saying a Republican Senator will never be allowed to serve again. What’s to worry about?

Would be disloyal to THE ONE to imply that the Democrats want to impose a socialist welfare nanny one-party state under an Obama/Reid/Pelosi Triumvirate? Where is Thomas Paine when you need him? Uh, who was Thomas Paine by the way? Could it be that None Dare Call It Treason to say we need another War of Independence in order to restore what once was a democratic Republic under the rule of constitutional Law?
