The Latest Trash from Newsweek

Newsweek now features the most dishonest article I have read in a long time. This drivel is called We Are All Socialists Now.

By liberal hacks Jon Meacham and Evan Thomas, it argues that America has succumbed to socialism so we might as well all stop wasting time arguing and get used to it. Just a few years after pundits everywhere heralded the triumph of markets and the death of big government, these writers now say America is inexorably headed toward becoming a European-style socialist state.

There is at least a grain of truth in their words in that entitlements have been steadily growing, but this is not proof in itself that America has embraced the ugly, foreign, un-American ideology known as socialism.

Granted, if America continues on its current path it will become a full-blown socialist state, complete with sluggish economic growth and crippling regulations as far as the eye can see, but we’re nowhere near that yet.

The article also fails to take into account the corrosive effect of the war. Many people voted against the Republicans, rather than for the Democrats. Americans wanted change, but there is little convincing evidence that they embraced a radical platform.
