What’s In the Stimulus Bill?

No one quite knows the full contents of the proposal, which is emerging in two and three hundred billion dollar dribs and drabs. But according to Tim Carney, the House Democrats’ $825 billion package will contain an absolute prohibition against building casinos, aquariums, zoos, golf courses and swimming pools. This is a reaction to Republican efforts to embarrass Democratic members of Congress like Senate majority leader Harry Reid. He wanted to appropriate taxpayer dollars for a Las Vegas museum on organized crime.

Aren’t these “shovel ready” projects that would create jobs and push money into the economy right away?
