UAW Wants An Auto Industry Bailout to Save Itself

Ron Gettelfinger, head of the United Auto Workers, is demanding a bailout for his union.

The $25 billion he wants the federal government to give the Big Three automakers will only delay the inevitable and reward the companies for failing to make the changes necessary to make their products competitive in the marketplace.

Why should the government prop up a failing industry just to make sure auto workers keep drawing fat paychecks? It’s time to stop throwing good money after bad.

Let the companies go through a cleansing reorganization in bankruptcy. America will be better off for it.
