Obama Campaign Cries Foul Over McCain’s “Robocalls”

Barack Obama’s campaign is upset that John McCain’s campaign is apparently arranging “robocalls” that highlight Obama’s ties to unrepentant terrorist and would-be mass murderer William Ayers.

Obama’s campaign is especially angry given that in the final presidential debate Wednesday McCain said: “I don’t care about some washed-up terrorist,” and “every time there’s been an out-of-bounds remark made by a Republican, no matter where they are, I have repudiated them.”

Well, it appears McCain does care. Only he knows why he said the opposite Wednesday. That’s his problem, not ours.

More important, though, is the fact that Obama has, in the words of the robocall, “worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers” whose organization, the Weather Underground, “killed Americans.” The statements about Obama are true. They are undeniable, extensively documented facts.

We know whereof we speak. We wrote about these facts in our June Foundation Watch profile of Barack Obama which been cited in three books so far (John Fund’s new edition of Stealing Elections, David Freddoso’s The Case Against Barack Obama, and Brad O’Leary’s The Audacity of Deceit).

For the record, below is the wording of the Obama campaign’s email that solicits funds to fight the alleged smears [emphasis in original]:

We knew things were going to get uglier, and now they have.

These attacks aren’t coming from a fringe outside group or a rogue Republican with a bone to pick.

They’re paid for by John McCain and the RNC. The “robocallers” even say, right up front, “I’m calling on behalf of John McCain” before they launch into false and discredited attacks.

We’re hearing reports of calls like this from all across the country. It just shows how much we still need to do — reaching out to voters with the truth requires twice as much work as flooding homes with “robocalls” filled with lies.

The Obama campaign makes this scary-looking video available to would-be donors.

POST SCRIPT next day: Not surprisingly, Yahoo News falsely reports that the connection between Obama and William Ayers is “misleading.”  Here is the passage from the news report:

The automated calls in Maine, Nevada and other states — they are commonly known as “robo calls” — say Obama “has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge’s home and killed Americans.” The charge is misleading: The bombings, which took place more than 35 years ago, didn’t result in fatalities and the group didn’t claim responsibility for the attack on the judge’s home.

Obama has condemned Ayers’ radical activities, which took place in the late 1960s and the 1970s, when Obama was a child. In the debate Wednesday with McCain, Obama said Ayers played no role in his presidential campaign.

Ayers, an education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, lives in Obama’s neighborhood in Chicago. In 1995, he hosted a meet-the-candidate session at his home as the young Harvard Law School graduate prepared to run for the Illinois Senate. The two also worked with two nonprofit charitable organizations in Chicago.

The Weather Underground, which Ayers led, killed people and Obama worked closely with Ayers. At a dance at Fort Dix the group tried to blow up a bomb that would have killed hundreds of U.S. soldiers and their guests. They sat together on the boards of the Woods Fund, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and Ayers (and his terrorist wife Bernardine Dohrn) co-hosted a fundraiser in their home for Obama in 1995 that kickstarted his political career. Obama and Ayers sat on panels together and Obama praised Ayers’s academic work. Case closed, even if journalists refuse to believe it.
