What’s Wrong with the Pickens Plan


The estimable Tim Carney explains what’s wrong with T. Boone Pickens’ public relations campaign to replace foreign oil with natural gas and windpower. Fine. Let Pickens undertake his “plan” as a business proposition, says Carney. But why should taxpayers provide the “incentives” (i.e. credits and subsidies) to finance his company’s investments in a wind farm in the Texas Panhandle? CRC’s August Foundation Watch examines Al Gore’s competing plan. It too depends on government policymaking to benefit private companies and investors.
