Soros & Co. Another Billionaires Conference Ends

The Democracy Alliance just finished a two-day planning conference in Washington (Nov. 1-3). In 2004 the group of billionaires that clusters around George Soros spent their millions on a Kerry get-out-the-vote drive. Disillusioned, they decided in 2005 and 2006 that it was better to fund a progressive infrastructure of think-tanks and media watch-dogs. What now? According to the Politico newspaper: “Sources involved in the discussions said the donors have not agreed on how to structure their giving.”

No wonder they keep losing. The group is bereft of ideas ,write CRC’s Matthew Vadum and James Dellinger in in CRC’s Foundation Watch. In a new book The Argument, Billionaires, Bloggers and the Battle to Remake Democratic Politics, New York Times writer Matt Bai said that when the group first met in 2005, their ideas sounded “like a high school project on the meaning of America.” They were in favor, they said, of “a just and peaceful world founded on truth.”
